Josie Conte, DO
what do I bring to my practice of medicine?
I am a sensitive and messy person. I like to color with all the crayons in the 64 pack of Crayola. This is probably why I became a family doctor. I wanted to become an Osteopathic physician after meeting my first mentor, Dr. Greg Thompson and witnessing the change he made in the frequency of fevers that my little one was having regularly, every 28 days, like a menstrual cycle by using his hands. I have always been a dancer, always had my hands in the earth, learning about plants, always have experienced health and I believe we each have varying degrees of health. I am not always a deep fan of western medicine, but I am a scientist and appreciate evidence. I also appreciate deeper knowledge and truths that are learned through experience and carried on by the wise ones which is why I have studied plants and Japanese acupuncture and Ayurveda from India and have been welcomed into Indigenous North American ways of knowing. The Nature ties. We are microcosms of a greater expression of intelligence. This is what I bring. Open hands and warm heart. I have worked as a doula and childbirth educator and continue to work with birthing people and their babies since 1994. I respect and am inspired by the cycles of the seasons, the months and the days. This is what I bring to my medical practice. I am grounded in best practices and trust that each person is a unique expression of mind, body, spirit and community. I will see you as unique. I enjoy bringing people in to the realm of the senses and would like to build a community of beauty to Hallowell, Maine.
